Oh my goodness. I’m so sorry that it’s been a full year since I blogged here. I really planned to keep this going more regularly. It’s a challenge. Lots has been going on, as that’s my life. It’s good stuff. Busy stuff. Working, creating, thinking, pare…
Here are two simple and practical techniques that helped me stop worrying.
Maybe they’ll help you too.
Give a try and let me know! I welcome your thoughts!
I’ve gotten to a point where I don’t care about scientific proof that Reiki, or life force energy, or chakras, or angels, or guides, or ancestors, spirits, or any energetic forces exist. I just don’t care what scientists have to say about their validity or not.
I see posts on Facebook saying that Science has Proven that the Aura is Real! Give me a break. I can feel the aura pulsing when I give Reiki. I can tell where it starts and I can find the areas where it is damaged. I can feel energy changing frequency when it’s healing itself.
I don’t need science to validate my work, my beliefs (which come from experience), or the results that Reiki can offer.
I also don’t need science to proclaim that human thought creates changes. I already know. I have manifested more results in my life through the power of intention and expectation than I can list.
I have arrived at a place in my own life where I trust my experiences, listen to my intuition, and guide my life based on those signals. And, it’s working.
If you’re waiting for science, I would advise you to stop wasting your time. Live. Listen to your innermost knowing. Give it a chance to tell you what’s real, to show you your Truth. And then see what happens when you do.
I made this video to express how I feel about spirituality – the Big Picture, so to speak, and all of the thoughts that I have about how things fit together – life, its meaning, our connection to each other, God, and the Universe, time, and otherworldly beings. It’s pretty packed.
I think that I could probably make more videos that expand on ideas presented here, but I wanted to ask your opinion about this, and how this video strikes you.
Thank you, Namaste.
The things I notice might be things that other people dismiss. But I’ve decided to take them personally, which is part of this practice.
For instance, we’re on vacation at the beach this week. Every morning about 7:30 I walk to the ocean by myself and sit and enjoy just sitting, watching the waves, the sand crabs, and whatever comes my way. The waves come in, go out, stand out, then merge again into the larger body of water. They’re a fantastic representation of the concept of flow.
During my morning beach time this week, I’ve seen dolphins – which I love. And every day, there have been more. That delights me!
I know I have a choice to think, “How nice. Dolphins. They’re plentiful this time of year.” Or, I can take it a step further and say, “Thank you, Angels, for bringing me this delightful gift of seeing a lot of dolphins, which I love.” I choose to take it personally, just as if someone had given me a gift. Because it is.
Two days ago, I was having fun watching dragonflies zoom around me as I walked to the beach. I sent out a thought invitation to the dragonflies to come closer and visit as I sat on the sand. Within about a minute, a green-spotted dragonfly landed on my wrist and stayed for about 10 minutes. I admired the dragonfly, thanked him or her, and enjoyed the little gift of personal attention that I received. By the way, that’s the only time the whole week that a dragonfly came that close, or landed on me or anyone in my family.
Think of it this way – if you really could use a little pick-me-up present, and then someone gives you one, you don’t ignore it or dismiss it, do you? You express your delight, and say thank you. Otherwise, the giver might not be so inclined to bring you want you ask for next time, because it sure seems like you didn’t really receive the gift – and it seems that maybe you’re not so open to receiving after all.
If I ask for something, I figure I should be totally open to receiving it, rather than not really expecting anything, or even, too distracted to notice when I do. In fact, I’m not really “asking” as much as stating that I’m open to receiving. Asking comes from a place of lack or want. I am not interested in receiving more lack or want! I’m open to receiving a flow of blessings, wonderful surprises, and abundance from the Universe. I’m ready to offer the kind of assistance that’s best for those who come to me for guidance, learning, or a Reiki session. I’m grateful to share the gifts and ideas I have to help make life better for others. That’s how I live in the flow, as the ocean waves have been reminding me all week.
It’s like a game, and it makes life more fun to play it this way.
I know people who see their life the opposite way. Something bad happens and they say that the Universe hates them, or that’s what they get for trying, or something similarly self-defeating. They go around expecting the next shoe to drop, and so, guess what, it does. And then they feel justified, like the world just confirmed they are right about the way they understand their life. And, yep, they are. Why? Because they expected crap, and they got crap. That doesn’t mean that they deserve any more crap than I do. But it does mean that the more you expect something, the more likely it is to happen, because you put all this mental energy into seeing the worst, and then put emotional energy (which is actually fear) into expecting the worst, so the Universe responds by manifesting what’s expected.
Turn that around by expecting the best, and anticipating it with gratitude, and a little excitement, and notice what happens. Try practicing living in the flow, and taking the gifts that come personally.
If something happens that you don’t want, or don’t like, that’s not a personal affront. Instead, it’s a chance to be open to something better, an opportunity to learn, reflect, or motivation to try something new. It’s a gift of another kind.
The waves come in, and go out. The tide moves the entire ocean further and back again. The tiny and massive ocean life are immersed in the motion of the flow. And for this week, so are we. My intention is to bring this lesson, and the energy of the ocean experience, back with me when we leave for home on Saturday.
Today is my birthday. I started this blog eight years ago, so it’s also my blogversary!
I take some time every year to consider how far I’ve come in the last year, and also since I started my blog, which I consider the time of the most significant change in my career, the beginning of my spiritual connection, and the start of living my true life’s calling.
I went back and read last year’s post to remind myself where I was last year. It’s always amazing to me to realize just how much happens in a year. Last year on this day, we had just recently moved here to Maryland, and were in the process of trying to sell our house in Ohio. I had just launched my Reiki Awakening Academy website, and was working on learning to update it and use the ecommerce system. My kids had started new schools, and I was looking for a place to practice Reiki locally.
Since then, I’m more at home here, our Ohio house is sold, the RAA website is doing well for us, my oldest daughter started High School, and all of the kids have adjusted beautifully. My husband has made great strides in his new job and loves it. I found a perfectly suited office to rent space in as needed, and have some regular clients. I’ve been teaching at The Institute for Spiritual Development, and have more classes scheduled there for 2015. Seven weeks ago, I published a new product and started a new website for it. (This is a great time to get A Moment for Me Calendar, by the way!) Over 100 have sold already, and they are carried in four stores so far. I’m working on a new line of books for A Moment for Me now. I was interviewed in US News & World Report for an article called “What is Reiki?”
Year 44 was a great blessing indeed.
Today I’m 45. It’s funny, but I keep thinking about how on surveys and registration forms that ask you to check which age group you’re in, now I’m in a new age bracket, the one called 45-55. I’ve been joking that I hope there are perks in this new group, like graduating to a new level of life. What awaits? Better food? Special VIP access? Secret meetings? I picture an envelope arriving with a code for a secret knock, and an address. I imagine going to that address, and knocking on the door the special way, and being granted access, but no one under 45 is allowed in. They check my ID, and let me in, closing the door firmly behind me. What wonders await inside?
So far, my body has granted me some interesting temperature modulations. I’m told that’s part of it. Interesting. Especially at night when I need to throw off the covers, only to pull them on again in about 2 minutes as I start to shiver. But, I’m sure there are more enjoyable perks awaiting.
As last year was the year of the angels, (44 is the angel number in numerology), I’ve decided that this year of my life is the year of perks. I’m going to put the expectation out there that all kinds of abundance is flowing into this 45th year, even better than before. I’m in! The perks of being 45 are amazing, and wonderful, and I can’t wait to experience them!
And that, my friends, is how you manifest a great year.
Happy birthday, me!
Today is my birthday. I started this blog on my birthday, seven years ago. So every year I write a birthday post.
I’ve been seeing the number 44 around me all over the place lately. It’s always something:44 when I look at the clock. My bill is $x.44 anywhere I’m shopping lately. The license plate of the car ahead of me is like a running stream of 4s. The email I click on was written 44 minutes ago, and has 44 words in it. It’s grabbed my attention over and over again.
Here’s the meaning of 44, from a lovely website called Angel Numbers. This is a quote from Joanne Walmsley, from whose website this is shared:
ANGEL NUMBER 44
Number 44 carries the doubled vibrations of the number 4, making its energies and influences magnified. Number 4 resonates with the attributes of support and stability, establishing solid foundations for the self and others, willpower and effort, ability and worthiness, hard work and achieving success, wholeness and inner-wisdom. Number 4 is associated with our passions and drive.
Angel Number 44 asks that you pay attention to your intuition and inner-wisdom as your connection with your angels and the angelic realm is very strong at this time. You are encouraged to continue on your current path as your drive and determination will lead to success and fulfillment.
When the Angel Number 44 appears repeatedly, it is a message that you are being surrounded by helpful, loving angels who wish to bring you peace of mind and joy of heart. The repeating Angel Number 44 indicates that you are being given support and encouragement along your path, and when faced with an obstacle, rest assured that your angels are most willing to assist. Be assured that solutions to any issues or problems will soon be revealed.
Angel Number 44 is a message that the angels and Archangels are with you, encouraging and guiding you. They are offering you inner-strength and support to enable you to get the work done that you need to in order to attain and achieve your goals and aspirations. They know and understand that you have been toiling diligently towards your goals, and encourage you to continue on your current path to achieve the success and results you desire. Work with the angels to ensure success in all of your endeavours.
Angel Number 44 is a message that you have nothing to fear in regards to your life, work and Divine life purpose and soul mission. The angels surround and support you, encouraging you to keep up the good work you have been doing. The angels and Archangels are always available for help and guidance – all you need to do is ask.
So, this is my year of 44. I like the idea of having a little extra support this year. One reason is that we moved to Maryland a couple months ago, after living in Ohio for…oh, all of our lives. So here, I’m starting over in terms of friends, contacts, business, and finding my way around.
I do love the area, am meeting new people, and can now successfully navigate to a few places without my GPS. Progress!
Another reason I could use some support is that my new website launched a month ago, and I’m trying to make sure that people know about it. I’m learning marketing, OpenCart, and some coding on the fly – “fly-learning” always seems to be the way I operate. I have big ideas and I’m putting them into play at hyperspeed, trying not to trip over my own feet in the process. Angels, please help me not break anything as I go along!
I have a house in Cleveland (University Heights for anyone who is looking – here’s the listing!) that I’d REALLY like to sell. This is a very good year for some extra angelic help!
But I also recognize how much support I’m already getting. Amazing, fast and surprising things have happened since we moved here. I’ve made friends with people who are just perfect in my life. I have teaching opportunities starting, and more manifesting. I have new ideas which are becoming reality. I have a sense of purpose and confidence that I’m moving in the right direction, despite the pressure to keep the momentum going.
So, this year in particular, I’m going to make a practice daily of reaching out to my angel helpers to support me in doing all I’m meant to do to live my purpose. Whether little things, or big things, I know that I’m being helped and guided.
And I’m very grateful to be in this place and time, with my amazing kids and supportive husband, and with the knowledge that my angels are with me.
Please comment if you feel guided to add your thoughts.
Since August, I’ve been part of a holistic healing team providing energy and other holistic support for the nicest woman, Lisa. I was asked, along with my good friend and Quantum-Touch practitioner, Ernie Betz, to be part of a team to help her. We all …
This is a true story.
|This is not my grill. Mine was worse
but I didn’t stop to take a pic!
At the start of this summer, I caught my grill on fire. Yes, really. Not just a little. It was on fire from the ground up, a pillar of flame that melted the entire grill like the Wicked Witch of the West and peeled the color off our vinyl siding.
It was my mistake. It was the start of summer. The grill had been sitting patiently during the winter and spring. My husband said to let him clean it out and check it, but I was impatient. I didn’t wait for him to clean it out and replace the burner that had ended up angled awkwardly backward. I just wanted to quickly grill some chicken before I ran off to teach a class. I figured I’d put the chicken in the front part of the grill grates and cook it on indirect heat. I didn’t realize the grill was quite as in need of repair as it was after the winter and spring.
Well, I DID realize it once the awkward burner caused the grill and all of its parts to turn into a towering inferno.
After turning off the gas and hosing off the grill and house, I left to teach and my husband, Evan ordered a pizza.
So we needed a new grill. My sister decided to give us an early Chanukah present and she gave us money for a new grill.
Mercury Retrograde notwithstanding, we looked online for sales and went out to Lowe’s, and purchased a decent looking grill. We paid for it and were told it would be assembled for us and we’d pick it up in a couple days. We were sold a conversion kit because we have a natural gas outlet from our house so we don’t need to use propane tanks.
A couple days later we went to pick up the grill. We waited inside Lowe’s for a longer time than should be expected. Finally, someone wheeled up a grill and said something like, “Here it is.” Before us stood a partially rusted, obviously used and returned grill of the same model as we had purchased. We pointed out that there must’ve been a mistake because this was clearly not new. The salesperson tried to insist it was new and had just been assembled in a dusty warehouse. Then he offered to sell us this rusty used grill for $75 off what we had paid. We declined the offer, got a refund and went home.
We did call the customer service line and complain about the experience.
The next day, I received a call from a manager, who offered us an upgraded model for the same price as what we had paid for the previous grill, and that Lowe’s would attach the conversion kit. I said we’d think about it and get back to him in a week. We did some research during the week, and found that the model had mostly good reviews and so we decided to purchase it.
I called and asked for a manager. I told the whole story to this new person on the phone. He said that no way could Lowe’s attach the conversion kit, because that is not allowed. In fact, he told me, the person who had said they would do that could likely be fired for saying such a thing to us. He then said they have one natural gas ready grill, it’s an upgraded model and brand from the one we had been expecting to get, and that we could have this one for the same price as the one we had first purchased. I agreed. He said he would have it assembled first thing the next morning and we’d be able to pick it up any time that day.
The next day…
Evan called Lowe’s to ask if it was ready to pick up. He was on hold for 30 minutes. The person returned to the phone and said that he would have to call Evan back because they were looking for it. Half an hour after that, they called Evan and said it’s ready, come on and pick it up. He came home from work and went to get our new grill.
In the store…Evan and our daughter Rayna, who he had brought along, waited a very long time while a salesperson ran around trying to find the grill, trying to find a manager, trying to find an answer. After finding none of those, this person offered us an even more upgraded model (we’re up above $700 now) for the same price as we had been expecting to pay. And she’d throw in the conversion kit for free. Evan agreed, paid for the grill, bought a cover, and came home.
We set up the grill and looked this gorgeous thing over. Evan went online for a moment and found out that this particular model can’t be converted to gas after all. Another call to the store, speaking to a manager. The manager said the wrong grill had been assembled, which is why no one could find ours. I asked him if the model we had intended to purchase was in the store. He said yes. I asked if it was assembled. He said no. I asked how long it would take to assemble it, and he said an hour. I told him that we would be back in an hour to return this grill and take the one we had been meaning to purchase, and that I wanted him to throw in a cover for our trouble. He agreed.
An hour later…
Evan went back to Lowe’s to pick up the grill. Evan returned the grill and cover. Lowe’s processed a refund on our card. They brought up the right grill, new this time, with a cover. Evan checked to make sure it was indeed a natural gas grill. It was. A little smaller but still really nice. Lowe’s knocked another $100 off the price for our trouble. Evan purchased the grill (now $100 less than the first model we had bought, listed at $200 more than the first model). He brought it home. We discovered that the wheels were on wrong. We decided we could fix that part ourselves.
The next morning…
Evan checked the computer and said there’s a problem. Our checking account was overdrawn. Why? Because apparently, the refund would take a few days to go through. So we had basically purchased two grills and a cover, as far as our checking account knew.
Another call to Lowe’s. A call to the bank. Evan went to work with the problem unsolved. He called me an hour later and said that the bank said I had to go to Lowe’s, then call the bank from Lowe’s and let the Lowe’s customer service person speak to the bank person and give the bank person some code that verified our refund so they’d release the funds back into our account. I went to Lowe’s.
This was no simple matter, as you probably expected by now if you’re still reading. For two hours, the bank person tried to explain to the Lowe’s person what was needed, and the Lowe’s person and his boss tried to find the code the bank person wanted. At the end of two hours, I spoke to the bank person, who said that the code is on our original receipt (and only there, apparently.) The Lowe’s guy felt so bad he gave me $90 in cash.
I went home. Evan came home from work, found the receipt, we called the bank and got our money back in our account. He and I fixed the wheels, hooked up the gas to our outlet, and prepared dinner. It works beautifully.
The outcome? The final cost for the grill was less than my sister had given us. We put the difference towards dinner.
The punchline? Thanks to Mercury Retrograde for the communication issues at every turn, and angels for some wild manipulation of events, we now have a high end grill, better than we would’ve picked out for ourselves, for less than we expected to spend.
The lesson of the story? I’ll be sure to not use the grill until it’s all checked over, cleaned up and ready when next season starts.
My main goal is to be the best resource I can for my students. I want to know things, yes, but most important, I want to be able to teach from experience. This is my highest goal, because it’s not about giving instruction, it’s about being able to teach authentically. I have learned that anything that I can do, I can teach to others. That’s because I know that any abilities I may have are those I learned – I am not one of those “naturally psychic” or “highly intuitive” people from childhood. I didn’t “suddenly discover psychic abilities” like many, either. I’m coming from the place of a muggle (to use a well-known literary reference) – someone who didn’t know anything before, and learned everything I know deliberately and on purpose. The advantage that this gives me as a teacher is that I have been very aware of how I learned the things I can do, and so I can guide others to the same outcome via my path. As part of my teaching skills, (some of which are my natural “talents” if you will), I am able to see ways to help people get from here to there. Have a goal? I can put together steps for you to reach it, and explain them clearly to you.
But back to the topic.
I’ve been feeling that I need to know more to be a better resource – not just know-intellectually, but know-experientially. A funny thing happens when I feel guided. Guidance doesn’t come to the surface of my conscious mind on a straight path. It tends to manifest itself through my actions until I become aware of what I’m doing and think it over.
So I realized that I’ve been buying books lately. In the past month, whenever I’m at a book store, I’m walking out with three or four. At one of the expos I went to, I saw a book I wanted, and I took a picture of it on my phone, and later ordered it through Alibris.com (a discount online book store), along with another book. My bookshelf has gained about 10 new friends, all about psychic experiences, intuition, grounding, Higher Beings, Angels, and energy healing. “Oh,” I thought, “I need to learn more.”
But it’s not just book learning I need. I need to get a handle on what I’m capable of, so I can be a better teacher and stronger lightworker altogether. I need a teacher.
So I started thinking about what I need from a teacher. Do I need to take a class? Do I need to go to a workshop? Do I need tutoring? I came to the conclusion that I need a teacher who will take me one-on-one, for a weekend or a long day, sit me down, present me with a task, and say “do this” with a little instruction. I learn by doing. I try things, they work, I realize I can do them. I need someone who will show me what I can do by simply expecting me to do it. And there are so many things I think I could do if I only knew a little bit more about how, and had someone to take me through it.
I’ve thought that I can interpret angel cards well. But every time I think of buying a deck of angel cards or the like, I feel overwhelmed and unsure. I’ve had the feeling that I could sense the energy of objects, but I’ve never done that before and don’t know exactly how. I’ve thought that I’d like to hear guidance and angels and earthbound spirits more clearly, but I need a little push in order to fine tune my connection. And probably more stuff that I’m not even aware that I can do, that I’d like to know how to try.
So I figured out what I need. Then I asked the Universe to show me who should teach me, and indicated that I’d be willing to travel if that were needed. Then I dropped it and waited. I’ve learned not to “oatmeal the Universe.” That’s a little phrase I coined based on what one of my kids sometimes does to me. “Mom, can you make me some oatmeal?” “Okay, honey.” I get started making oatmeal. She interrupts, “Mom! Are you making me some oatmeal?” “Yes, dear, I’m getting it.” I continue to prepare the oatmeal. “Mom? Can I have raisins?” “Yes, honey, I know you like raisins.” “Mom? Is it ready yet?” “No, not yet.” “Mom? Can I have cinnamon?” “Yes, dear, I’m getting the cinnamon…” By now, I wish she would just quiet down and let me do what she asked me to do without interrupting me a dozen times while I’m getting it for her. If she’d look, she’d see that I’m setting up her place settings, getting the ingredients into the bowl, stirring and preparing what she asked for. She doesn’t have to keep asking me. It’s being done.
This translates to me continuing to ask the Universe over and over again for what I want, what I need, please please please, blahblahblah while the Universe is, the entire time, putting things into place for my highest good, and if I would just shut up and look around, I might notice that things seem to be getting there. The little details that indicate that something is happening would be more obvious if I would just quiet down, observe, and be patient. Don’t oatmeal the Universe. It’s a nice little reminder for me. Go ahead and adopt it if you feel it would work for you too.
Last night, my mentor, friend, and teacher, Connie, emailed me. In the middle of our email conversation, she suddenly wrote, “I hope you don’t mind me saying, you are at the point where you need some further instruction in order to prosper both inside & outside family & the business” and she invited me to her house in Columbus for a day and overnight so she could help me move forward. We chose a date. I feel answered.
I love it when that happens.
Oh, and regarding the books I bought, two things:
1. A friend reminded me recently that having all those books and no time to read them isn’t a waste. Just picking up a book and turning to a page and reading where my eye falls can be the right advice at the right time.
2. I’m going to soon add a section to my website called “Alice Recommends” where I’ll list and link to products, services, and programs that I fully endorse for their value, all of which will have been useful to me at some point in my own growth. A number of these books, as well as some of the most amazing teachers I’ve met and learned from, will be featured on this list for you to choose from also if you’re drawn to them.
So again, I am thankful for the opportunity to recognize my guidance, follow it, and excited to find out what will happen next. May this work for you too. I’m glad for the chance to share my experiences with you all, in hopes that they can be of help to you.
Thanks for reading and being along for the journey.
